Star Wars: The Story of General Grievous

This is the story of General Grievous before he became his true self.

Grievous_original

Qymaen jai Sheelal was born on the planet Kalee. While its jungles were considered to be the some of the most beautiful in the Galaxy, Kalee was a harsh, unforgiving world: torn by war and famine where those only with hearts of steel could brace its perils. It was in this hell that Qymaen forged himself into one of the most fearsome generals in his tribe. The elders of his tribe hailed him as the reincarnation of their greatest warriors. For generations his people had been at war with the insect species known as the Huk or as they were known in their tongue, ‘Soulless Bugs’. Savage and greedy, the technologically advanced Huk desired to enslave the Kaleesh people and plunder their resources. What followed was a devastating war that lasted decades, the warmongering Kaleesh refusing to bow down to the Huk colonies. In the latter decades of the war, Qymaen lead victory after victory against the vile invaders, rivers running black with the blood of the Huk he had slain. By the age of 22, Qymaen had slain so many Huk that the Kaleesh people considered him a demi-god, the bulk of the Kaleesh army being placed under his direct command. As the years went by, Qymaen began to feel grief of indescribable depth, while the tide of the war had been turned in favour of his people, he cannot help but mourn the warriors he had lost in his numerous engagements, most of all, his beloved Ronderu who Qymaen can still see in his dreams even after her horrific death. While he tried to cast off his doubts, Qymaen realized he was destined to mourn her forever, the void in his heart left forever unfilled. Following this realization, Qymaen cast off his old identity, adopting a name appropriate for being destined to grieve forever and more terribly he was determined that he would not do so alone, he would be Grievous, as well as heartbroken for the rest of his life. However as the general embraced his new identity, little did he know just how far this transformation would go or which he would ultimately become.2eGFU8Bw2NQ

The morning carried the scent of fresh blood as Grievous made his way to his starfighter. As he approached his clan’s shaman, Grievous had reflected on how things had gone so horribly wrong. Sensing that their defeat was near, the Huk, being the cowards they were, appealed to the Senate for help, fabricating a tale that it was the Kaleesh who started the conflict. The Senate, in its blind haste, had sent the Republic Navy and a Jedi task force to intervene. Grievous’ people once again being slaughtered to the last. Grievous had never liked the Jedi or the Republic, but now his hate for them and their corrupt Republic was as bright as Kalee’s sun. He hated the Senate for being blind to the Huks’ manipulations; he hated the Jedi for their blind obedience and ritualistic ways, but most of all he hated himself for not being able to prevent his people suffering before it was too late. As he knelt before the elder, the shaman proclaimed Grievous as his people’s last hope in this war, citing that the spirit of his ancestors would watch over him in the coming battle. As Grievous took off in his starfigher, he wondered if his ancestors were truly pleased with his actions. If he was a demi-god, why was he losing. What kind of general could he be if he could not even defend his tribe. Grievous’ attention was ripped back to reality as his ship began to buck and short circuit, his systems failing one after another, his ship began to plunge into the oceans below. Grievous made his way to his escape pod when suddenly, his ship exploded.

On the shore on a platform, a dark figure watches as the General’s body is retrieved by his faithful droids. He is informed that the General has survived but has been severely injured. After shocking the warrior into stasis, the dark figure instructed his guards to load the body onto the transport and take their prize to Geneosis. As he watches the ship climb into the night sky, the dark figure pulls out his comlink and informs his associates that their plans for the General have succeeded and that they can commence with their experiment.

Grievous_tank“Am I dead?” “Ah, you are awake my friend, and yes, very much alive. But your body has sustained nearly fatal wounds, due to your accident–” “Who… are –?” “My apologies. I am San Hill, Chairman of the Intergalactic Banking Clan. And judging by your cloak we found, you are a Kaleesh General, are you not?” “A very fortunate one I might add. A Banking Clan frigate accidentally picked up your escape pod’s emergency beacon in the Jenuwaa Sea.” “Your crew was not so lucky, I’m afraid–. But you, dear General, your mind and vital organs are safely in our care here on Geneosis.” “Geneosis?! …An honourable leader dies alongside his soldiers! I ORDER you to bring me back to Kalee!” “How touching, General. Do you really think the IBC would go through all this trouble only to let you die? You will not even survive the journey back to Kalee …let alone another four hours without a blood transfusion, however, as fate would have it, your accident is almost… a blessing. You see, we have been funding a Geneosian bionic technology project, and you, General are the perfect candidate for our experiment. An experiment that will plunge you back into the heart of battle.” “What good is an amputee in the heart of battle?” “Therein lies the beauty of this technology. We can guarantee you a new self-sustaining body with appendages, free of cumbersome life-support systems. In fact, your new abilities may even surpass that of any… Jedi.” “The sooner I return to exterminating Huk colonies, the sooner I can redeem–” “Your destiny is now beyond your futile wars with neighbouring planets. After all, the Republic is really to blame for all the Galaxy’s struggles. A Confederacy of Independent Systems is in the making and a great war is unavoidable. You will command the largest droid army in history, and in return, the IBS will relieve Kalee of its famine. After you help us introduce a New Order into the Galaxy, you will be free to return to your people… as their greatest hero.” “Your “New Order” is meaningless to me. ARRRRRRRGH!!!” “To die in a bacta tank does not befit a great warrior general such as yourself. Shame–what would your ancestors think?” As San Hill’s words ran through Grievous’ mind, he thought of the dishonour he would bring if he died here; they were offering him a chance to live again, a chance to rejoin the fires of war and bring death to the Republic he hated. He weighed at the disfigurement of his body against the dishonour of his people and his ancestors. It was no contest, he submitted to the changes.

The Book of Dragons: Stoker Class

Stoker Class

Terrible Terror

Appearance

1. Terrible TerrorThe Terrible Terror resembles a Common or Garden Dragon (book) in appearance. It has an iguana-like body, two pairs of horns, one pair of wings, and a tail with a barbed tip. It comes in various colors. Its physical attributes (such as the type of horn and spinal ridge) suggest that, despite the size difference, it is closely related to the Monstrous Nightmare.

Behaviour

They are also shown to be very mischievous. They often travel in packs, and they can be quite aggressive. They are also very curious creatures, and you may find them in places you would not expect them. In the first movie, and the Book of Dragons, they were shown to lick their eyes like some geckos do despite the fact that they have eyelids. Like every dragon, each Terrible Terror has its own unique personality. They also make a lot of noise, and can be very annoying. They are not picky eaters and will eat just about anything they can digest. Though they have very small teeth, they have strong jaws and can deliver a nasty bite. They also seem to be fairly easy to train.

Monstrous Nightmare

Appearance

2. Monstrous Nightmare - HookfangA Nightmare is usually purple, scarlet, or green and possesses a long, snake like neck and tail. Unlike some other breeds of dragon, it has no forelegs, and its ground-based locomotion is similar to that of pterosaurs; it can use its claw-tipped wings to “crawl” along the floor. Their horns might be used in the same way as some species of hoofed animals, such as deer, use them, in order to fight other members of their species.

Behaviour

By nature, the Monstrous Nightmare is fearless and proud. Nightmares are some of the strongest dragons around and they know it. They are extremely aggressive. In battle, they are the first to arrive and last to leave.

The best way to earn the trust of a Nightmare is simply to show it the respect it deserves. Placing a gentle hand on its snout and showing you are not a threat to it is the best way to go.

According to Gobber the Belch, the best way to engage a Nightmare is to clamp its mouth shut, leaving it unable to open its enormous jaws, much like a crocodile (however, the rest of the dragon is free to do whatever it wants). In Heather Report Part II, Snotlout revealed that the Monstrous Nightmare enjoys its horns being pinned to the ground, and Astrid was able to tame one by doing so.

Despite their name, Monstrous Nightmares are known to have a softer side. In Dragons: Wild Skies, their favorite food are scented flowers. In several points of Dragons: Riders of Berk, Hookfang occasionally dozed off or was distracted by butterflies or something else.

Typhoomerang

Appearance/Behaviour

TyphomerangTyphoomerangs have a unique ability during flight: they rotate (by analogy with the typhoon / boomerang) at high speeds, zooming through the air. Although, as they rotate, they seem to pop off the objects around them, which makes them extremely dangerous. Act leaves a distinctive burn to the ground. Ash apparently acts as a fertilizer; such as at the end of The Terrible Twos where it shows flowers growing where the Typhoomerang removed.

Typhoomerangs are very large dragons; come in a variety of colors including blue, yellow, red and orange.

Fireworm

Appearance

Average

Fireworm AverageCommon Fireworms are about half the size of Terrible Terrors. They have dark gray scales with red skin underneath, or gray skin that turns red when heated; however it seems in Riders of Berk, they have orangish-brown scales. They also have five pairs of legs for a total of ten legs. They have fierce eyes that glow in the dark. They resemble lizards, with their wide heads and long bodies. When they heat, they glow white-red, and sometimes light their bodies on fire.

Queen

Fireworm QueenThe queen of the fireworms (the Fireworm Queen) looks quite similar to your average fireworm, but she has some differences that make her outstand from the rest. For instance, while the common fireworm can fit in the palm of a hand, the queen is many times bigger, her size is comparable to that of a Monstrous Nightmare. She also posseses several protuberances in the back and front of her head that resemble a crown. The Queen was seen only at Fireworm Island so her original colour (the color when not heated up) is unknown. It is unknown if the Queen even have an original color. Fireworm Queens are the only female in the species.

Behaviour

These dragons are often found in large groups. This makes them extremely dangerous. They are even remotely aggressive, occasionally clinging to potential enemies. Usually Fireworms make their homes in dark caverns. Fireworm Queens are very protective of their firecombs of gel and will chase down anything that tries to take it. As being a mother, the queen has devoted, discreet nature even on rage to take back her firecombs, and being highly intelligent as being capable of conjecturing the intruders’ motives and objectives.

Despite their aggressive nature (to protect their nests), they seem to know if another dragon’s fire is worn out, and are kind and sympathetic enough to reignite other dragons’ firepower with their venom (at least all species of Stoker class receive benefits).

Stormcutter

Stormcutter

Name: Cloudjumper

Class: Sharp

Stormcutters are known for their large size and two pairs of wings. They are also rare, intelligent, proud, and confident. They have owl mannerisms and a second set of wings under their main ones that can splay and become an ‘X-wing’. Stormcutter dragons walk on this second set of wings and their hind legs. The wings can also come close together so they can be like one main pair. They have a very muscular and sturdy build. Their face has two long spines that branch off their nose and to the side and they have a “smashed” face, kind of like an owl, you could also call them brachycephalic. Similar to a Night Fury, they have a finned tail. They also have many spines down their back that make them look intimidating with a large “crown” on their head that makes them look even more menacing.

Abilities

Thanks to the unique body structures and heavy build, Stormcutter is indeed a very sharp and formidable hunter and a fighter. Their ‘X-wing’ beats up and down in sync and are probaly used for extremely tight turns and maneuvers and for fighting foes. This body structure allows them to demonstrate aculeate flight techniques such as navigating through narrow and complicated spaces, or hovering and even rest in midair.
Stromcutters can shoot a sustained torus of fire, and they also have fore-talons on their wings that are hooked and can be used to pick dragon trap locks or destroy an entire war machine.

Rumblehorn

Skullcrusher_the_Rumblehorn

Name: Skullcrusher

Class: Tracker

Appearance

The Rumblehorn has relatively large wings, a wide torso, and a tail with a club-like hammer on the tip. It’s most notable feature is the heavily armed front half of it’s body with firm armor plates on the neck and a large lower jaw, a battle axe-shaped muzzle, which is always digging in the dirt, looking for sents, and three, very sharp, elongated horns resembling those of ceratopsian dinosaurs, but lacking a beak. The Rumblehorn has a very acute sense of smell, and is determined to track down and find anything once it has picked up the scent. In total, they look like a mix of truffle pig, a rhino, a battle ax, and a scarab beetle.

It can also shoot long-ranged fire “missiles” from its mouth which will explode in impact as well as normal flames.

Hotburple

Grump_Flying

Name: Grump

Class: Boulder

Appearance

Hotburples greatly resemble Gronckles, although they have larger body and wings, with their eyes positioned closer to the snout than to the ears. They can do anything while sleeping.

Characteristics

Like the Gronckles, the Hotburples is amazingly heavily armored species, and has a famous Lava Blast identical to that of the Gronckle, with a highly striking power almost reaching the level of the Night Fury.

An adult Typhoomerang will form a circle of fire around a predator/prey that could or will mean harm to their babies. A fully grown Typhoomerang can fly at high speeds, near that of a Night Fury. In shape and size, they are comparable to dragons such as a Timberjack.

Boulder Class

Boulder ClassThese dragons are tough and love the dirt.

Gronckle

3. Gronckle - MeatloveLike all dragons, the Gronckle has five stages of maturity; first the egg, the tiny teeth, the small wing, the broad wing and finally the titan wing which is extremely rare. A Gronckle won’t stay mad at you if you just feed it a little dragonnip.

The Whispering Death

MKThe Whispering Death knows only one thing: killing! He burrows through the dirt and rock, attacking from below. Their rotating teeth can bore through anything. These Boulder Class dragons are so wicked they can breathe rings of fire. In spite of their fearsome reputation it turns out they just like to be brushed.

Snaptrapper

6. SnaptrapperThis dragon mimics a flower by popping open its triple hinged claws and exhaling a sweet, scented breath to entice prey onto its tongue. Like all dragons, the Snaptrapper can shed its scales and claws. But they all grow back. Snaptrappers love rain and they can’t wait to play in the mud.

Deadly Nadder

7. Deadly Nadder - StormflyNadders have the hottest fire in the dragon world. If you move slower and show her that you are not a threat she’ll let you smooth her tail spikes down.

The Timberjack

8. TimberjackThe Timberjack has gigantic, razor-sharp wings that can slice through a forest of trees like a giant guillotine and its wings can fold into a massive tent to provide shelter. Mystery Class

Screen_shot_2012-06-07_at_9.34.15_PMDon’t know how these dragons work.

The Changewing

11. ChangewingThis strange dragon can disappear into any environment. Changewings are curious creatures and they display mimicking behaviour. Whatever they see they love to copy. Changewings are known for their acid breathe and their ability to hypnotise. But finding one takes a keen eye. Their skins are softer, which makes them vulnerable to attack, so these dragons protect themselves in a strange way.

The BoneKnapper

12. BoneKnapperThis odd creature collects the bones of dead dragons and makes itself an unusual coat of armour. If you want to train a BoneKnapper, just give it whatever it’s looking for and it’s just like overgrown puppy dog. And another thing about this dragon is: if his armour is not complete he can’t roar.

Smothering Smokebreath

Smothering SmokebreathThe Smothering Smokebreath is about the same size as a Terrible Terror, perhaps a little bit bigger. Because of their veil of smoke, they are often mistaken for a larger more menacing ‘Fog Monster’. Smokebreaths cover up in a veil of smoke and then ambush you when you least expect.

Strike Class

Strike Class SymbolEvery dragon in this class is characterized by blazing speeds; vice-like jaw strengths and extreme intelligence.

The Skrill

13. SkrillThis elusive creature is highly secretive and is known to ride lightning bolts, like an air torpedo to reach supersonic speeds. Found only during electrical storms, it can shoot bursts of white fire. If you stand too close to a Skrill, your hair will stand on end.

Night Fury

Night Fury 5The Night Fury is the rarest and most intelligent of species of dragon. He is small to medium-sized with jet black scales covering his whole body, his sides having small light patches in a pattern similar to that of a manta ray. The Night Fury resembles an axolotl in general appearance and has pairs of wings, two ear-like appendages on the back of his head to show his mood, a pair of yellowish-green, cat-like eyes and sharp retractable teeth. The Night Fury possesses three sets of wings (one main pair and one smaller pair near the base of his tail). His eyes are located very near the front of his face giving him excellent depth perception and reflexes in flight. He can narrow his pupils to slits when threatened or angry, similar to that of a cat. But when he is docile or happy, his pupils dilate and become more dog-like. Unlike most dragons, the Night Fury has a short neck and lacks any kind of horn.

In flight, the Night Fury’s wingspan is unrivalled, making him resemble some sort of jet plane. This allows him to fly faster, longer and further than any other dragon. He has two extremely large wings that allow him to do a vertical take-off. Behind that is a set of smaller wings that aid in gliding. He uses the wing-like flaps on his tail to steer and manoeuvre, similar to an airplane’s rudder. Even when not flying he can tear along the ground at terrific speeds. His jumping abilities are phenomenal. As seen in the movie, a Night Fury will be incapable of flying if one of these flaps is missing or destroyed.

4.7 ToothlessNight Furies are generally quite aggressive to any form of threat they find, similar to how the other dragons treat the Vikings of Berk. According to the Dragon Manual, the Night Fury is considered to be so aggressive that it is likened to the “unholy offspring of lightning and Death itself”. Toothless proves himself to be quite an advanced fighter when he manages to defeat a Monstrous Nightmare, one of the Vikings most feared enemies. He also quickly outmanoeuvres and defeats Stoick the Vast, who is presumably the best dragon slayer in Berk. Also like his fellow dragons, Night Furies are seen to have a different personality when they are not threatened. They are curious creatures that attempt to understand new things they observe and are intelligent enough to recreate the actions that they see. Night Furies are fairly capable of communicating. Toothless doesn’t have a hard time getting his emotions noticed. Also, he seems to be fairly capable of understanding speech. The best evidence of this is when he makes a noise in agreement with Hiccup regarding the fact the Red Death can fly. He also seems to understand when Hiccup orders him not to kill his father, Stoick the Vast.

1.1 ToothlessThe Night Fury’s main type of attack style is dive-bombing at enemies at great speed while being completely camouflaged within the dark sky. The only warning is the ballistic sound he makes when he dive-bombs. The Night Fury is able to be completely invisible at night because of his dark coloured scales. In addition of dive-bombing, the Night Fury will also spit out oxygen/acetylene-fuelled flames that will explode on impact and will instantly incinerate anything. Night Furies are picky eaters and will only eat fish. When hunting, a Night Fury uses his sharp retractable teeth as fishing hooks in order to snatch and grip prey from the water. Night Furies are also capable of swallowing prey whole and their stomach liquids, which are similar to battery acid, are strong enough to dissolve fish bones. The Night Fury is a very dangerous dragon and should be avoided at all costs. The Night Fury is the only dragon in the film adaptation to be given a personal name. Night Furies can sleep upside down like bats.

Hiccup’s view on how he trained a Night Fury

Toothless & Hiccup

“First, I had to get his attention, then I needed to earn his trust. Everyone wonders what it’s like to fly and thanks to Toothless we know. These islands are full of dragons but I haven’t seen another Night Fury. I have so many questions about him, but I do know one thing. Toothless didn’t just become my friend; he became the friend who gave me my purpose.”
