Chapter 1

A New Beginning

Spyro's EggSpyro is a rare purple dragon born once every ten generations, said to bring hope to the world. During Spyro’s incubation, the Dragon Temple was attacked by the forces of the Dark Master, who was intent on destroying all the dragon eggs to prevent Spyro’s birth. Ignitus, the Guardian of Fire, rescued the purple dragon’s egg, and left it to drift down the Silver River into a Swamp, hoping for the best. Spyro’s egg drifted down the river and was soon discovered by a family of dragonflies, Nina and Flash. Upon hatching, Spyro was adopted into the dragonfly family and raised as one of their own alongside Sparx, a young dragonfly who was born the same day.

Spyro the DragonMany years passed since Spyro’s birth. On one fateful day when Spyro and Sparx were playing hide ‘n’ seek, a group of Apes attacked the duo and Sparx was captured in the process. Spyro disposed most of the group when Sparx gave the leader a sarcastic insult. The leader didn’t take the insult very well and was about to kill Sparx. Spyro, furious, unconsciously used his Fire breath on the leader, who promptly retreated report back to someone called Cynder. Spyro dealt with the remaining Apes and freed Sparx from his ‘lantern’ cage. Upon returning to their home, he was told by his foster parents, Flash and Nina, that he was not a dragonfly, but a stranger from a distant, war-torn land. Spyro decided to leave the Swamp in search of his true home. Sparx, though reluctant at first, decided to follow along. Spyro was pursued by hostile forces, but eventually came into contact with a distraught Ignitus, who although pleased that Spyro was alive, feared that with the Dragon Temple under occupation by the Apes, led by a large black dragon named Cynder, their war was already lost.

Spyro convinced Ignitus to lead him to the Temple, and was able to drive Cynder’s forces out, after which Ignitus told Spyro more about their war against the Dark Armies, offered Spyro some training in the art of fire, and then sent Spyro off to rescue three other Dragon Guardians from Cynder’s forces. First, he flew to Dante’s Freezer to find Volteer, the Guardian of Electricity. There, he faced the Ice King, and saved Volteer.

When Spyro and Volteer returned to the Temple, Volteer trained Spyro the art of electricity and explained to Ignitus that he lost some of his electric powers inside a crystal Cynder stored. Ignitus expected that Cynder may be planning to do something with the Guardians’ powers, but he doesn’t know what for, so Ignitus sent Spyro to Tall Plains, home of the Attlawa tribe, to find Cyril, the Guardian of Ice. When Spyro was near the shrine where Cyril was held, he and Sparx witnessed Cynder fly off without noticing them and they continue their way to the shrine. Once there, the god of the Shrine, the Stone Sentinel, awakened and engaged Spyro in battle, which the purple dragon emerged victorious.

After Spyro and Cyril went back to the Temple, he taught Spyro the secrets of ice and discussed with the other Guardians more about Cynder’s possible plans. Ignitus hypothesized that Cynder was trying to gain all the Guardians’ elemental powers to open a portal that must never be opened. Spyro questioned Ignitus of what was he talking about, but Ignitus told him that doesn’t concern him now and sent Spyro to Munitions Forge, where Terrador, the Guardian Of Earth, was held. Atop of the volcano, of Boyzitbig, where Terrador was imprisoned, Spyro engaged in battle with the Conductor and his locomotion, Steam. After the Conductor’s defeat, the explosion of Steam released Terrador from his prison.

When Spyro was ready to leave with Terrador, Cynder appeared and chased Spyro throughout Munitions Forge as the volcano erupted around them. When Cynder was about to catch Spyro, Ignitus intervened and fought with the black dragon, but was captured. Spyro tried to help Ignitus, but Terrador stopped him and told him that he wasn’t ready to take on Cynder. Spyro felt guilty and ashamed that he let Ignitus down and was frightened to face Cynder. Terrador told him that there’s no shame for all warriors to have fear, and trained Spyro how to master the element of earth and his own fear.

After Spyro’s training, Terrador explained to Spyro, Volteer, and Cyril about Cynder’s lair, possibly where she took Ignitus. Spyro flew to Cynder’s lair and found Ignitus confined with his powers being draining inside a crystal. Cynder stopped Spyro from destroying the crystal, and after Spyro fought her, she escaped with it. Spyro noticed that there was something familiar with Cynder, her eyes, and Ignitus told him the truth. Cynder was actually born from the same brood of eggs as Spyro, but she was taken by the Dark Master’s forces and corrupted by his poisonous powers, becoming his tool of destruction. The Dark Master was using Cynder to gain the Guardians’ powers so she could unlock the portal, which served as his prison, as only a dragon born on the Year of the Dragon can open it. As the vortex to the world of Convexity opened, Ignitus feared that they were too late, but Spyro refused to give up and followed Cynder through the portal.

Spyro_Evil_CynderWhen Spyro caught up with Cynder, she had already put the final crystal inside the portal, allowing the Dark Master a means of escape, and was ready to face Spyro in a final showdown. Eventually, Spyro used all of his power in a final attack to defeat Cynder, freeing her from the Dark Master’s influence and returning her to her true form: a young dragon the same size and age as Spyro. The portal to the Dark Master’s prison opened, but suddenly began to pull the three towards it. Sparx insisted on making a quick exit, but Spyro declared he will not leave Cynder behind with the Dark Master; though barely, Spyro was able to grab Cynder and escaped safely.

Back at the Dragon Temple, the Guardians congratulated Spyro for succeeding in rescuing them all, before Sparx ranted on how he didn’t get any credit for the things he had done helping the dragons. Though victorious, the battle cost Spyro much of his own strength and powers, and it would take time for his powers to return. While celebrating their victory, Spyro emerged from the temple to one of the balconies and gazed up to the stars before being joined by Cynder. They both knew that the Dark Master was still alive somewhere; their troubles were far from over war.

Chapter 2

The Eternal Night

Spyro saves CynderWeeks had passed since Spyro freed Cynder from the Dark Master’s control and brought her back to the Dragon Temple. During that time period, he began to having recurring nightmares, one of them of his final battle against Cynder in Convexity, until he was woken up by Sparx one night. When Sparx noted he could finally sleep due to Cynder leaving the temple, Spyro followed after her. Spyro trailed Cynder through the jungle surrounding the Dragon Temple and caught up to her; he asked her to stay, stating no one blames her for what happened. Despite Spyro’s plea, Cynder left, saying she didn’t want to cause pain and suffering to anyone, especially Spyro. When Spyro was about to chase Cynder, he collapsed and found himself in a dream void. A mysterious voice emitted in his dream, helping Spyro regain his Fire element and showing him a vision of a great tree.

After Spyro woke up, an Ape army attacked the Temple. Once Spyro repelled the attack, Ignitus tried to locate Cynder, but instead found a vision of Spyro at the base of a great tree. Spyro claimed that he kept seeing haunting visions of a mountain draped in shadow and darkness beneath the two moons. Terrador realized that that mountain was the Mountain of Malefor. Spyro also claimed that a voice, called the Chronicler, came to his dream and showed him that tree. The Guardians were shocked, and Ignitus told Spyro that the Chronicler is an ancient dragon of immeasurable wisdom and was often interwoven with tales of doom. The Guardians became increasingly worried about the Celestial Moons coming into an eclipse and felt that they were no longer safe at the Temple. Ignitus sent Volteer and Cyril to the mainlands to learn what news they could, and sent Terrador to the Shattered Vale to warn everyone living there about the darkness spreading in the mountain, while Ignitus stayed behind to search for Cynder.

Spyro was assigned to go to the Ancient Grove to seek out the tree that he saw in his dream. While searching, he was summoned into a dream by the Chronicler again to regain his ice abilities and showed Spyro a vision of a terrible king-like Ape, leading a huge army of Apes going to the Mountain of Malefor, shouting, “…The Well of Souls!”, another name of the mountain. After Spyro woke up, he eventually found the great tree, but it later turned out to be a monster called Arborick and Spyro defeated it. Afterwards, a group of Skavengers, led by a captain named Skabb, appeared and wanted Arborick for “entertainment” in a fighting arena, but that changed when the Pirates wanted Spyro to “cooperate”, so they knocked him unconscious. Spyro later awoke, finding himself in a cell on the ship of Fellmuth Arena.

Battle after battle, Spyro defeated many challenges that the Skavengers threw at him. Shortly after defeating his first opponent, the Blundertails, Spyro was summoned yet again by the Chronicler to regain his Earth powers and told him more about the Well of Souls and the Night of Eternal Darkness, before telling Spyro to find him in the Celestial Caves of the White Isle. After that, Spyro received a message from another prisoner called Hunter of Avalar, saying that he had become Spyro’s ally. Later on, Spyro was forced to fight Cynder in a final match, but she told him about her plan for escape, but it was cut short when an Ape army attacked and captured Cynder. With Pirates on their ships in chaos, Spyro managed to defeat Skabb, and escaped.

After he escaped from the Skavengers, the Chronicler summoned Spyro in his dream again to regain the power of Electricity and showed him a vision of Cynder in chains, brought before the Ape King she called by the name of Gaul. When he arrived at the White Isle, Spyro overcame tough challenges of his elemental skills and he eventually found the Chronicler, who told him about Gaul, an Ape King who led the raid at the Temple at the night of Spyro’s birth and stole Cynder’s egg.

Spyro then wanted to know what would happen to Cynder and learned more about her past. Upon discovering that Cynder will return to the Dark Master’s side upon his return, Spyro refused to believe it. The Chronicler told Spyro about Malefor, the Dark Master. According to him, Malefor was the first purple dragon to exist; his raw power allowed him to master practically every elemental power. When his growth failed to stop, he was exiled by the Dragon Elders, but after that, he built an army of Apes and taught them how to use the gems; the dragon’s life-force. Malefor’s sheer wage of his malice split the earth and created the Well of Souls; where the Apes had established, in effort to revive Malefor at the Night of Eternal Darkness. The Chronicler wanted Spyro to hide from the Apes until a later time, but Spyro insisted on going to Cynder’s aid.

Dark SpyroWhen he got to the mountain and confronted Gaul within the core of the Well of Souls, the Ape King zapped Spyro with his staff, rendering him weak and drained him of his elemental powers, He then ordered Cynder to attack the weakened Spyro. When she attacked Gaul instead, he knocked her out and challenged Spyro himself. During the fight, the lunar alignment occurred, and the evil energy it generated channeled through Spyro, transforming him into Dark Spyro. Possessed by the influence of Dark Aether, Spyro used his immense power to turn the Ape King into stone, ultimately killing Gaul before leaping back into the lunar beam of energy. Cynder awoke, and upon seeing Spyro possessed by evil and the power of the Lunar Alignment, she knocked Spyro out of the beam, freeing him.

Get Close To MeSpyro apologized for being unable to control himself, but was forgiven by Cynder who reassured him that he was with friends. However, Spyro’s battle with Gaul caused the mountain to begin collapsing around them. Cynder spotted an opening big enough for all three of them to escape, but Spyro was left weakened from his battle with Gaul and urged Cynder and Sparx to go without him, though they both refused to leave Spyro. The opening soon became blocked off, trapping the three within the collapsing Well of Souls. Spyro recalled the Chronicler’s words, and he utilized his Time Fury to freeze Cynder, Sparx, and himself inside a crystal, protecting them from harm as the mountain crumbled around them. After the credits, the crystal that contained Spyro, Cynder, and Sparx was seen within the ruins of the Mountain of Malefor. As the three companions were frozen in time, the Chronicler spoke to Spyro telepathically that when the young dragon awakens, the world he knew would be different, but notes to Spyro that he won’t be alone and has allies.

Chapter 3

Dawn of the Dragon

“Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. But sometimes fear clouds our vision. Sometimes our strength gives out. And yet sometimes, when all seems lost, a light shines through the darkness, and we are reminded that even the smallest amount of courage can turn the tides of war.”

IMG_1216Within the remains of the Well of Souls, Spyro, Sparx and Cynder were released from their three year-long slumber by a group of Grublins, who chained the two dragons together with an invisible string generated by two glowing snakes around their necks. They were immediately dragged away to the Catacombs afterwards to be sacrificed to an earth Golem under Malefor’s orders. Spyro and Cynder soon awakened and found themselves chained to the floor of a large platform within the Catacombs, where they were attacked by the Grublins and the massive Golem. The two dragons couldn’t fight the Golem while tethered together until a cheetah warrior, Hunter, sent the monster off in a painful retreat after he shot it in the eye.
IMG_0072Hunter then revealed that Ignitus sent him to find Spyro and Cynder three years ago, much to their disbelief. They narrowly escaped the Catacombs, ripping off the Golem’s arm in the process. Within the Enchanted Forest, Hunter told them that the Dark Master, Malefor, had returned and covered the land in shadow, having reclaimed the Dragon Temple and had been at war with the Realms ever since. After hearing this, Spyro began to blame himself for failing to come back to the others sooner and letting the inhabitants down when Malefor returned. He was reassured by Cynder that some things were beyond his control. Suddenly, they were taken captive by Hunter’s tribe, with Chief Prowlus, the leader of the cheetahs, who doesn’t trust Dragons due to Malefor and Cynder when she was under the latter’s control. After saving the village from Grublins, Spyro and Cynder convinced Prowlus that they weren’t evil by saving a missing villager named Meadow. Hunter proceeded to lead them through the Forbidden Passage to the Dragon City of Warfang.

Once there, the city became under attack by the Golem and an army of Grublins. They successfully repelled the attack, killing the Golem in the process. Afterwards, Spyro and Cynder reunited with the Guardians after three long years.  Ignitus tells the two young dragons not to view the chain as a hindrance rather a reminder of the bond the two of them share and that their destinies are intertwined. That night, Malefor gave the citizens of Warfang a message that he had awakened the Destroyer, a beast that recreates the world by bringing about its destruction. Before this could happen, it had to complete a circle around the world called The Ring of Annihilation which would make the Belt of Fire spread out over the world and burning everything that it crosses over. Ignitus hatched a plan to stop it from underground, and had Spyro and Cynder open the doors to the Ruins of Warfang from the inside in order to reach the area where the Destroyer would end its journey.

As they made their way through, Spyro was comforted by Ignitus when the young dragon was worried about what was going to happen and how he would end up like Malefor. The Fire Guardian reassured that Spyro’s existence as the only good purple dragon was nature’s way of balancing itself, cancelling out Malefor’s evil. Once they’ve reached the location, Cynder thought of a plan to destroy the Dam, flooding the valley and halting the Destroyer’s progress. They managed to do so and entered the Destroyer’s heart, destroying the dark crystal controlling it. Even though they destroyed the dark gem that was the heart of the Destroyer, Malefor used his dark magic to control the beast and it still managed to complete its Circle.
IMG_0093The rest of the inhabitants headed for underground, while Ignitus escorted Cynder and Spyro through the Belt of Fire to confront Malefor. However, the Fire Guardian sacrificed himself to allow the two dragons to get pass unscathed. Spyro, in his grief, almost lost himself to the darkness he fell into three years ago and turned into Dark Spyro, but Cynder’s words pulled him out, and she expressed her condolence by telling him he was not alone and nuzzled him lovingly.Cynder comforting Spyro After a few final fights in the Burned Lands and later on the Floating Islands, Spyro and Cynder finally confronted Malefor, who taunted Spyro by saying that they have more in common than just their color. Spyro denied this, proclaiming that he is nothing like Malefor, who then proceeded to free both Spyro and Cynder of the chain that binded them together throughout their trials. Malefor then claimed that his influence over Cynder had not completely diminished and that she had led Spyro to the Well of Souls to trick him into freeing the evil dragon. Cynder both denied Malefor’s words, but gradually grew unsure, to which Malefor replied by taking control over her again and renewing her dark side.

IMG_0094A dismayed Spyro was attacked relentlessly by Cynder, as Malefor assured Spyro that there have been many purple dragons before him and that their true role was to resurrect the Destroyer and the Golems of the Deep to bring about “The Great Cleansing”, destroying the world. Spyro denied Malefor’s statements and continued to be struck by Cynder relentlessly, though he made no effort to fight back as Malefor laughed maniacally. When Cynder furiously demanded to Spyro why he wouldn’t fight back, he revealed that she had left him nothing to fight for. Hearing this, Cynder broke free from Malefor’s control, and told him that there is always something. Enraged, Malefor chained Cynder back to Spyro, declaring that she would share his fate before attacking the two young dragons in the skies above the temple.
During their first phase in the battle, the Destroyer managed to throw itself back into the volcano from whence it came, thus completing its circuit and beginning the destruction of their world. Spyro, Cynder, and Malefor continued to fight, however, the Dark Master was soon thrown down to the planet’s heart, a giant purple crystal, by a joint attack. Malefor declared that he cannot be defeated as he was eternal. However, the spirits of the Ancients, the Dragons who taught Malefor all he knew, emerged from the purple crystal upon these words, and proceeded to drag Malefor into the planet’s heart, sealing him away, much to his dismay and the awe of Spyro and Cynder.

IMG_1222With Malefor gone, the chain that binded Spyro and Cynder together disappeared along with his dark magic, but the Dark Master’s plan was still underway as the planet was breaking itself apart. As the world was being destroyed, Spyro was given hope by Ignitus’s spirit, and then instructed Cynder to flee as he had discovered what he had to do to stop the destruction. But Cynder, who didn’t want to leave Spyro, decided to stay with him. As Spyro unleashed a powerful fury wave, Cynder was heard whispering to him, “I love you” before Spyro’s desperate endeavor reconstructed the world. As the survivors resurfaced, they gazed up at the stars as they formed a shape of a dragon.
IMG_1136After the credits, the Chronicler chose the spirit of Ignitus to be the next Chronicler of the new age. Before passing his mantle, the Chronicler informed Ignitus that though he has tried his best, he cannot find any trace of Spyro in the book that details dragons who have died. As Ignitus began searching through the book to find where Spyro might be, the scene changes to the scenery of the Valley of Avalar. Spyro and Cynder were seen wheeling through the skies above the valley, alive, free of their chain and finally being able to live happily ever after.

Cynder

CynderAt first, Spyro only knew Cynder from the Guardian’s stories and a few glimpses of her corrupted form, so he saw her as an enemy who must be stopped. During his first encounter with her at Munition’s Forge, he was strongly scared of her and didn’t deny his fear. With the help of Terrador, he was able to overcome his fear. After learning the truth about Cynder, he felt sorry for her, realizing she is another victim of the Dark Master, but was still determined to stop her. After releasing Cynder from Malefor’s influence, he didn’t hesitate to save her and didn’t blame her for anything she did while under the Dark Master’s control.

imageDuring the few weeks that Cynder stayed at the temple, he developed feelings for the black dragoness, and grew to truly understand her as time passed. He was desperate to stop Cynder from leaving the temple. He was visibly hurt when she left anyways. Most (if not all) of his actions during The Eternal Night were driven by his feelings towards Cynder, and as shown during his time at the White Isle, his biggest fear is her becoming Malefor’s servant again. When that fear became true during his confrontation with Malefor, Spyro refused to fight her, simply stating that without her, he had nothing left worth fighting for.

Spyro and CynderAs the series progressed his feelings for Cynder became more obvious, by Dawn of the Dragon, both would frequently gaze at each others’ eyes and comfort each other. Spyro also rarely complained about being chained to Cynder and his only complains were aimed towards the chain hindering them in battle rather than Cynder herself. When Spyro decided to give up his life to restore the world, he wanted Cynder to save herself and was clearly touched when she chose to stay with him.

Star Wars: The Story of General Grievous

This is the story of General Grievous before he became his true self.

Grievous_original

Qymaen jai Sheelal was born on the planet Kalee. While its jungles were considered to be the some of the most beautiful in the Galaxy, Kalee was a harsh, unforgiving world: torn by war and famine where those only with hearts of steel could brace its perils. It was in this hell that Qymaen forged himself into one of the most fearsome generals in his tribe. The elders of his tribe hailed him as the reincarnation of their greatest warriors. For generations his people had been at war with the insect species known as the Huk or as they were known in their tongue, ‘Soulless Bugs’. Savage and greedy, the technologically advanced Huk desired to enslave the Kaleesh people and plunder their resources. What followed was a devastating war that lasted decades, the warmongering Kaleesh refusing to bow down to the Huk colonies. In the latter decades of the war, Qymaen lead victory after victory against the vile invaders, rivers running black with the blood of the Huk he had slain. By the age of 22, Qymaen had slain so many Huk that the Kaleesh people considered him a demi-god, the bulk of the Kaleesh army being placed under his direct command. As the years went by, Qymaen began to feel grief of indescribable depth, while the tide of the war had been turned in favour of his people, he cannot help but mourn the warriors he had lost in his numerous engagements, most of all, his beloved Ronderu who Qymaen can still see in his dreams even after her horrific death. While he tried to cast off his doubts, Qymaen realized he was destined to mourn her forever, the void in his heart left forever unfilled. Following this realization, Qymaen cast off his old identity, adopting a name appropriate for being destined to grieve forever and more terribly he was determined that he would not do so alone, he would be Grievous, as well as heartbroken for the rest of his life. However as the general embraced his new identity, little did he know just how far this transformation would go or which he would ultimately become.2eGFU8Bw2NQ

The morning carried the scent of fresh blood as Grievous made his way to his starfighter. As he approached his clan’s shaman, Grievous had reflected on how things had gone so horribly wrong. Sensing that their defeat was near, the Huk, being the cowards they were, appealed to the Senate for help, fabricating a tale that it was the Kaleesh who started the conflict. The Senate, in its blind haste, had sent the Republic Navy and a Jedi task force to intervene. Grievous’ people once again being slaughtered to the last. Grievous had never liked the Jedi or the Republic, but now his hate for them and their corrupt Republic was as bright as Kalee’s sun. He hated the Senate for being blind to the Huks’ manipulations; he hated the Jedi for their blind obedience and ritualistic ways, but most of all he hated himself for not being able to prevent his people suffering before it was too late. As he knelt before the elder, the shaman proclaimed Grievous as his people’s last hope in this war, citing that the spirit of his ancestors would watch over him in the coming battle. As Grievous took off in his starfigher, he wondered if his ancestors were truly pleased with his actions. If he was a demi-god, why was he losing. What kind of general could he be if he could not even defend his tribe. Grievous’ attention was ripped back to reality as his ship began to buck and short circuit, his systems failing one after another, his ship began to plunge into the oceans below. Grievous made his way to his escape pod when suddenly, his ship exploded.

On the shore on a platform, a dark figure watches as the General’s body is retrieved by his faithful droids. He is informed that the General has survived but has been severely injured. After shocking the warrior into stasis, the dark figure instructed his guards to load the body onto the transport and take their prize to Geneosis. As he watches the ship climb into the night sky, the dark figure pulls out his comlink and informs his associates that their plans for the General have succeeded and that they can commence with their experiment.

Grievous_tank“Am I dead?” “Ah, you are awake my friend, and yes, very much alive. But your body has sustained nearly fatal wounds, due to your accident–” “Who… are –?” “My apologies. I am San Hill, Chairman of the Intergalactic Banking Clan. And judging by your cloak we found, you are a Kaleesh General, are you not?” “A very fortunate one I might add. A Banking Clan frigate accidentally picked up your escape pod’s emergency beacon in the Jenuwaa Sea.” “Your crew was not so lucky, I’m afraid–. But you, dear General, your mind and vital organs are safely in our care here on Geneosis.” “Geneosis?! …An honourable leader dies alongside his soldiers! I ORDER you to bring me back to Kalee!” “How touching, General. Do you really think the IBC would go through all this trouble only to let you die? You will not even survive the journey back to Kalee …let alone another four hours without a blood transfusion, however, as fate would have it, your accident is almost… a blessing. You see, we have been funding a Geneosian bionic technology project, and you, General are the perfect candidate for our experiment. An experiment that will plunge you back into the heart of battle.” “What good is an amputee in the heart of battle?” “Therein lies the beauty of this technology. We can guarantee you a new self-sustaining body with appendages, free of cumbersome life-support systems. In fact, your new abilities may even surpass that of any… Jedi.” “The sooner I return to exterminating Huk colonies, the sooner I can redeem–” “Your destiny is now beyond your futile wars with neighbouring planets. After all, the Republic is really to blame for all the Galaxy’s struggles. A Confederacy of Independent Systems is in the making and a great war is unavoidable. You will command the largest droid army in history, and in return, the IBS will relieve Kalee of its famine. After you help us introduce a New Order into the Galaxy, you will be free to return to your people… as their greatest hero.” “Your “New Order” is meaningless to me. ARRRRRRRGH!!!” “To die in a bacta tank does not befit a great warrior general such as yourself. Shame–what would your ancestors think?” As San Hill’s words ran through Grievous’ mind, he thought of the dishonour he would bring if he died here; they were offering him a chance to live again, a chance to rejoin the fires of war and bring death to the Republic he hated. He weighed at the disfigurement of his body against the dishonour of his people and his ancestors. It was no contest, he submitted to the changes.

B-17 “Flying Fortress”

b17-flying-fortressThe Boeing B-17 “Flying Fortress” was a heavy bomber aircraft used by the  Unites States Army Air Corps during World War II. Equipped with four engines, numerous gun emplacements and a superior “flight ceiling”, the B-17 was the favourite bomber of the US Air Corps, despite its inferior range and bomb capacity to the B-24 Liberator, primarily because of its ability to sustain heavy damage and still brings its crew back home alive.

Initially used in risky daylight raids against targets in Germany, the B-17 sustained crippling casualties from the Luffwaffe fighters. As the war progressed and the Allies designed fighters capable of escorting the bombers into enemy territory, the B-17’s raids became more successful, doing crippling damage to German industry and cities.

Over 12,000 B-17s were constructed during World War II and approximately a third of them were lost in combat.

My Testimony

How I came to the Lord is when I felt abandoned by my father, so I turned to Jesus for help and comfort and my love for Him grew, but after watching ‘The Passion of the Christ’ I was completely taken by Him and that night while I was sleeping I suddenly started to weep because my Saviour had found me and I truly became a child of God.

As I have come to know and adore Jesus I have come to realize: What is there to fear when you have Jesus Christ in your life? For fear fears Him!  Shout out His name “Jesus Christ” and all evil things shall flee! Praise the King of kings! Praise our Saviour Jesus Christ!

I have come here today to be baptized, as Jesus was, to demonstrate my love and obedience for my Saviour!

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

8570340-1360680961539 - Copy

The term ‘Christian’ is used widely and indiscriminately in the world in which we live.

A Christian is not:

Someone baptized as a baby or adult and confirmed into a membership of a church,

Someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour without understanding why this is important,

Someone whose parents are Christians,

Someone who lives in what is supposed to be a Christian country. (There has never been and never will be such a thing as a Christian country).

What then is a Christian? A Christian is someone for whom and in whom God has done something. God has saved a Christian. How?

A Christian is someone for whom God has done something. We call this justification. Justification is not something which is done in you. It is something which God has done for you. In order to understand the doctrine of justification we need to understand the following: Ever since God created our first parents, Adam and Eve, they and all mankind have been subjected to God’s moral law. Morality is rooted in God. He made right, right and wrong, wrong, and God’s moral standards have been encoded in His righteous law. They were given to the Israelites when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20)

  1. You shall have no other gods before me;
  2. You shall not worship idols;
  3. You shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain, for you shall not go unpunished;
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy;
  5. Honour your father and your mother;
  6. You shall not murder;
  7. You shall not commit adultery;
  8. You shall not steal;
  9. You shall not lie;
  10. You shall not be jealous of others.

Even before Mount Sinai, God made known His revealed will to Adam and Eve and their descendants. Adam failed to keep the law and plunged himself, his wife Eve and the entire human race into sin. However, where Adam failed Jesus Christ succeeded, When Jesus Christ became a man like us and He did two things on our behalf. He actively obeyed the law we have all disobeyed and He passively submitted to the cruel death of the cross where the Lord laid upon Him the iniquity of us all. See John 1v14 and Isaiah 53v6.

14And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,

and we have seen his glory,

glory as of the only Son from the Father,

full of grace and truth.’

6All we like sheep have gone astray;

   we have turned-everyone-to his own way;

and the LORD has laid on him

     the iniquity of us all

Christ’s obedience in life and His obedience to the Father’s will in the death on the cross became all that a believer needs for a right standing with God (Romans 5v19). When a sinner believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, the righteousness of Jesus is put down to his credit and the sins of the believer is imputed to Christ who suffered in our place (Philippians 3v8-9 and 2 Corinthians 5v21). Someone once wrote these lines:

“Upon a life I did not live

Upon a death I did not die

I stake my whole eternity.”

A Christian is therefore someone who is saved by the doing and dying of Jesus and not by anything done by a Christian. The results of justification by faith are enormous; these are listed in Romans 5v1-5. They include peace with God, access in prayer, a blessed hope for eternity and also rejoicing in our suffering. The reason why a Christian can rejoice even in his sufferings is because he knows that his sufferings are not a punishment for his sins, which have been completely punished in Christ the sinless sin-bearer on the cross, and therefore trials are designed to draw us closer to Christ and to God (Hebrews 12v5-11).

5And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?

“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,

      nor be weary when reproved by him.

6For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,

     and chastises every son whom he receives.”

7It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. 11For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.’

The doctrine of justification therefore teaches the difference of true religion. Every religion which teaches the necessity of human merits to be saved is false. Whereas the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ clearly announces that we cannot save ourselves, but that Jesus Christ does it completely and entirely (Titus 3v4-7).

4But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared, 5He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, 7so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.’

It is essential to understand the doctrine of justification if we are going to die peacefully.

A Christian is someone in whom God has done something. What has God done in a believer?

God has effected the new birth (John 3v3-5).

3Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” 4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.’

In the physical birth of a baby, the baby is passive. In the new birth which is effected by the Holy Spirit, the one coming to faith is also passive. This does not mean that there is not personal faith. In the same chapter, in which Jesus teaches the necessity of the new birth, He also teaches the necessity of faith in Christ (John 3v16 and 36).

16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” ‘36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.’

However, unless God effects the new birth, no one will believe. Unless a baby is born, it will not cry nor express dependence on its mother.

Conversion and repentance. God enables those whom He saves to turn from their sin to Him through Christ and to experience true conversion (1 Thessalonians 1v4-5 and Acts 3v19).

4For we know, brothers loved by God, that He has chosen you, 5because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.’

God gives the believer the gift of forgiveness (Psalms 103v8-12 and Ephesians 1v7).

8The LORD is merciful and gracious,

         slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

9He will not always chide,

        nor will He keeps His anger forever.

10He does not deal with us according to our sins,

         nor repay us according to our iniquities.

11For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

        so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him;

12as far as the east is from the west,

         so far does He remove our transgressions from us.’

7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.’

God effects a work of sanctification in a person who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, and then progressively enables the believer to be sanctified throughout life. Positional sanctification is what God does when He sets apart a believer in Jesus at the person’s conversion, 1 Peter 1v2 (‘according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with His blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.) whereas progressive sanctification takes place throughout life when the believer becomes increasingly conformed to the image of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4v3 and 5v23; John 17v17).

3For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;’

23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’

17Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.’

God gives the gift of the Holy Spirit to every believer in Jesus Christ (John 7v37-39 and Acts 2v38-39)

37On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39Now this He said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.’

38And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.”’

The Book of Dragons: Stoker Class

Stoker Class

Terrible Terror

Appearance

1. Terrible TerrorThe Terrible Terror resembles a Common or Garden Dragon (book) in appearance. It has an iguana-like body, two pairs of horns, one pair of wings, and a tail with a barbed tip. It comes in various colors. Its physical attributes (such as the type of horn and spinal ridge) suggest that, despite the size difference, it is closely related to the Monstrous Nightmare.

Behaviour

They are also shown to be very mischievous. They often travel in packs, and they can be quite aggressive. They are also very curious creatures, and you may find them in places you would not expect them. In the first movie, and the Book of Dragons, they were shown to lick their eyes like some geckos do despite the fact that they have eyelids. Like every dragon, each Terrible Terror has its own unique personality. They also make a lot of noise, and can be very annoying. They are not picky eaters and will eat just about anything they can digest. Though they have very small teeth, they have strong jaws and can deliver a nasty bite. They also seem to be fairly easy to train.

Monstrous Nightmare

Appearance

2. Monstrous Nightmare - HookfangA Nightmare is usually purple, scarlet, or green and possesses a long, snake like neck and tail. Unlike some other breeds of dragon, it has no forelegs, and its ground-based locomotion is similar to that of pterosaurs; it can use its claw-tipped wings to “crawl” along the floor. Their horns might be used in the same way as some species of hoofed animals, such as deer, use them, in order to fight other members of their species.

Behaviour

By nature, the Monstrous Nightmare is fearless and proud. Nightmares are some of the strongest dragons around and they know it. They are extremely aggressive. In battle, they are the first to arrive and last to leave.

The best way to earn the trust of a Nightmare is simply to show it the respect it deserves. Placing a gentle hand on its snout and showing you are not a threat to it is the best way to go.

According to Gobber the Belch, the best way to engage a Nightmare is to clamp its mouth shut, leaving it unable to open its enormous jaws, much like a crocodile (however, the rest of the dragon is free to do whatever it wants). In Heather Report Part II, Snotlout revealed that the Monstrous Nightmare enjoys its horns being pinned to the ground, and Astrid was able to tame one by doing so.

Despite their name, Monstrous Nightmares are known to have a softer side. In Dragons: Wild Skies, their favorite food are scented flowers. In several points of Dragons: Riders of Berk, Hookfang occasionally dozed off or was distracted by butterflies or something else.

Typhoomerang

Appearance/Behaviour

TyphomerangTyphoomerangs have a unique ability during flight: they rotate (by analogy with the typhoon / boomerang) at high speeds, zooming through the air. Although, as they rotate, they seem to pop off the objects around them, which makes them extremely dangerous. Act leaves a distinctive burn to the ground. Ash apparently acts as a fertilizer; such as at the end of The Terrible Twos where it shows flowers growing where the Typhoomerang removed.

Typhoomerangs are very large dragons; come in a variety of colors including blue, yellow, red and orange.

Fireworm

Appearance

Average

Fireworm AverageCommon Fireworms are about half the size of Terrible Terrors. They have dark gray scales with red skin underneath, or gray skin that turns red when heated; however it seems in Riders of Berk, they have orangish-brown scales. They also have five pairs of legs for a total of ten legs. They have fierce eyes that glow in the dark. They resemble lizards, with their wide heads and long bodies. When they heat, they glow white-red, and sometimes light their bodies on fire.

Queen

Fireworm QueenThe queen of the fireworms (the Fireworm Queen) looks quite similar to your average fireworm, but she has some differences that make her outstand from the rest. For instance, while the common fireworm can fit in the palm of a hand, the queen is many times bigger, her size is comparable to that of a Monstrous Nightmare. She also posseses several protuberances in the back and front of her head that resemble a crown. The Queen was seen only at Fireworm Island so her original colour (the color when not heated up) is unknown. It is unknown if the Queen even have an original color. Fireworm Queens are the only female in the species.

Behaviour

These dragons are often found in large groups. This makes them extremely dangerous. They are even remotely aggressive, occasionally clinging to potential enemies. Usually Fireworms make their homes in dark caverns. Fireworm Queens are very protective of their firecombs of gel and will chase down anything that tries to take it. As being a mother, the queen has devoted, discreet nature even on rage to take back her firecombs, and being highly intelligent as being capable of conjecturing the intruders’ motives and objectives.

Despite their aggressive nature (to protect their nests), they seem to know if another dragon’s fire is worn out, and are kind and sympathetic enough to reignite other dragons’ firepower with their venom (at least all species of Stoker class receive benefits).

Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth I of England

True Queen Elizabeth I

7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603

Gloriana; The Virgin Queen; Good Queen Bess

History

Elizabeth I was a remarkable woman living in a remarkable age. Beautiful, brilliant, and as tough as nails, she survived and indeed thrived, ruling in an era when most women were little more than chattel. The fifth and last monarch of the Tudor Dynasty and the only queen who actually ruled England.

Early Life

Born to King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, who her father had executed for failing to give him a male heir, Elizabeth’s early life was filled with danger. Growing up an unwanted daughter of an insane father who was destroying England’s ties to the Catholic Church and engaging in a civil war so that he could legally marry another woman (several other women, as it turned out), Elizabeth had to use all of her wits to survive. Elizabeth received an excellent education at the hands of various tutors, including the great scholars of the day. She was an outstanding student, and could speak five languages fluently.

When Henry VIII died, the throne passed to his young son, Edward VI. At fifteen Elizabeth was implicated in a plot to overthrow him. She came close to being executed, surviving only because she was able to convince her skeptical interrogators that she knew nothing of the plot.

When Edward VI died in 1553, Elizabeth’s older sister Mary assumed the throne. An ardent Catholic, Mary I was quite unpopular with a number of Protestant noblemen, who attempted unsuccessfully to overthrow her in 1554, Once again Elizabeth was implicated, but once again she talked her way out of execution. Mary I died in 1558, and at last Elizabeth was Queen.

Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth was an extraordinary ruler. She established the Protestant Church as the official Church of England. However, she attempted to stem the persecution of Catholics in England – at least as much as was possible when the Catholic nobility were actively plotting her demise. She also restored the debased currency of England, a step crucially necessary to restore the nation’s flagging finances.

Elizabeth used all of the tools available to her to achieve her goals. She carefully crafted an image for herself as the “Virgin Queen,” greatly increasing popularity. She received countless offers of marriage from nobility and indeed from kings across Europe. But she accepted none of them, instead using her unmarried state to control her friends and foes alike; if one faction got too strong, she could drive them back into line by suggesting that she was considering marrying someone from an opposing faction.

Patron of the Arts

Elizabeth was a great patron of the arts, particularly music and literature. She made England a centre of culture, where great artists like William Shakespeare flourished. During her reign the first English playhouse was built, followed shortly by others including Shakespeare’s Globe. And in 1574 weekday performances were made legal. An admirer of poetry, Elizabeth wrote a number of noteworthy poems herself.

Foreign Relations

Militarily, Catholic Spain was England’s greatest threat. Spain was the great continental power of the day, and its leader, King Philip, had upon more than one occasion expressed the intent of invading England. In 1588, building a huge armada to conquer the upstart nation. Elizabeth quickly organized the country’s navy to fend off the fleet, and by a combination of superior tactics, ship design, and some foul weather at just the right moment, they defeated the Spanish foe. England was not to be seriously threatened with invasion for about 400 years.

During Elizabeth’s reign England, France, Spain, and the Dutch all set up colonies in the New World. Elizabeth employed a large number of privateers to attack foreign ships and colonies, as did most other nations. Spain and its New World wealth remained the privateers’ favourite targets.

Overall, with the exception of her lucky triumph over the Spanish Armada, Elizabeth was not a successful war leader. She oversaw various half-baked military incursions into Ireland, France and the Netherlands, none of which redounded to her credit.

Judgement of History

Elizabeth died in 1603, having ruled 45 years. Although in her later years military and economic reversals had dimmed her luster to the point that many in England were relieved that she finally passed on, history acknowledges that she left her country in a much better state than when she came to power. Her great skills were an unerring survival instinct and flair for self-promotion, personal charisma, and toughness matching that of the strongest rulers in history. No better words can serve to describe her than her own: “I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king.”

A quote by Pope Sixtus V

“She is only a woman, only mistress of half an island, and yet she makes herself feared by Spain, by France, by the Empire, By all.”

Poem by Queen Elizabeth I

THE DOUBT OF FUTURE FOES

The doubt of future foes exiles my present joy,

And wit me warns to shun such snares as threaten mine annoy;

For falsehood now doth flow, and subjects’ faith doth ebb,

Which should not be if reason ruled or wisdom weaved the web.

But clouds of joy untried do cloak aspiring minds,

Which turn to rain of late repent by changed course of winds.

The top of hope supposed, the root of rue shall be,

And fruitless all their grafted guile, as shortly ye shall see.

The dazzled eyes with pride, which great ambition blinds,

shall be unsealed by worthy wights whose foresight falsehood finds.

The daughter of debate that discord aye doth sow

Shall reap no gain where former rule still peace hath taught to know.

No foreign banished wight shall anchor in this port;

Our realm brooks not seditious sects, let them elsewhere resort.

My rusty sword through rest shall first his edge employ

To poll their tops that seek such change or gape for future joy.

Dragons of How To Train Your Dragon 2: Book of Dragons

Stormcutter

Stormcutter

Name: Cloudjumper

Class: Sharp

Stormcutters are known for their large size and two pairs of wings. They are also rare, intelligent, proud, and confident. They have owl mannerisms and a second set of wings under their main ones that can splay and become an ‘X-wing’. Stormcutter dragons walk on this second set of wings and their hind legs. The wings can also come close together so they can be like one main pair. They have a very muscular and sturdy build. Their face has two long spines that branch off their nose and to the side and they have a “smashed” face, kind of like an owl, you could also call them brachycephalic. Similar to a Night Fury, they have a finned tail. They also have many spines down their back that make them look intimidating with a large “crown” on their head that makes them look even more menacing.

Abilities

Thanks to the unique body structures and heavy build, Stormcutter is indeed a very sharp and formidable hunter and a fighter. Their ‘X-wing’ beats up and down in sync and are probaly used for extremely tight turns and maneuvers and for fighting foes. This body structure allows them to demonstrate aculeate flight techniques such as navigating through narrow and complicated spaces, or hovering and even rest in midair.
Stromcutters can shoot a sustained torus of fire, and they also have fore-talons on their wings that are hooked and can be used to pick dragon trap locks or destroy an entire war machine.

Rumblehorn

Skullcrusher_the_Rumblehorn

Name: Skullcrusher

Class: Tracker

Appearance

The Rumblehorn has relatively large wings, a wide torso, and a tail with a club-like hammer on the tip. It’s most notable feature is the heavily armed front half of it’s body with firm armor plates on the neck and a large lower jaw, a battle axe-shaped muzzle, which is always digging in the dirt, looking for sents, and three, very sharp, elongated horns resembling those of ceratopsian dinosaurs, but lacking a beak. The Rumblehorn has a very acute sense of smell, and is determined to track down and find anything once it has picked up the scent. In total, they look like a mix of truffle pig, a rhino, a battle ax, and a scarab beetle.

It can also shoot long-ranged fire “missiles” from its mouth which will explode in impact as well as normal flames.

Hotburple

Grump_Flying

Name: Grump

Class: Boulder

Appearance

Hotburples greatly resemble Gronckles, although they have larger body and wings, with their eyes positioned closer to the snout than to the ears. They can do anything while sleeping.

Characteristics

Like the Gronckles, the Hotburples is amazingly heavily armored species, and has a famous Lava Blast identical to that of the Gronckle, with a highly striking power almost reaching the level of the Night Fury.

Ship of the Line

Ships of the line were the largest and most powerful wooden sailing vessels ever built. They formed the backbone of Europe’s great navies from the 17th to the mid-19th centuries. Ships of the line were named for the classic formation that these ships fought in. In battle, each side’s ships would approach the enemy in a line, as the opposing ships passed, each would let off a thundering broadside of cannon fire, doing horrific damage to the vessels and to those aboard her. Victory usually went to the side with the most cannon and the best-trained sailors. The English were masters at this form of warfare, and their ships of the line dominated the world’s oceans for more than a century.

English Longbowman

The English longbow developed during the 12th century, as the English were fighting to conquer Wales. The longbow was made from yew or elm, and was 5 to 7 feet in height (depending upon the height and strength of the user). The longbow was extremely difficult to master, but well-trained English Longbowmen could shoot farther, faster and more accurately than the crossbowmen of the day. But this did require years of training. As the country’s population grew the English wilderness was transformed into farmland. Opportunities for hunting disappeared and the English yeomen became less proficient with bow and arrow. This, more so even than the advent of gunpowder, led to the decline of the English longbow.
